PMI 2009 Board Member Peter Monkhouse recently visited Vancouver and Victoria to help reach out, celebrate, and recognize organizations that are at the forefront of utilizing project management to reduce cost, increase efficiency and make our planet a greener and less polluted place to live. PMI and the Canadian West Coast Chapter (CWCC) presented an award to Walter Udell of BC Hydro, recognizing the largest member-represented employer of the chapter, for embracing, valuing and leveraging project management to achieve results. Mr. Monkhouse delivered a presentation to many Professional Engineers and Project Managers at BC Hydro on the value of PMI membership and certification. Mr. Monkhouse also attended several collaborative sessions involving the Region 1 Mentor Pat Garrett, Chapter President Iain Palmer, VIC President Scott Hutchinson and the Board of Directors of the VIC.
The support of the PMI Board and members of the GoC is greatly appreciated and has considerably enhanced the start of several very significant relationships not only between the two Chapters but also between those Chapters and other external organizations such as the BC Government, BC Hydro, and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC. |

On the Drawing Board: Mentoring Program for Senior PMPs
You've told us that there's a lot of interest in a mentorship program aimed specifically at mentors meeting other mentors. We've put the concept forward with the Chapter executive and are now in the planning stages for a pilot program to be started later this year.
If you are a senior PMP with at least 7 years as a lead PM, have worked in 2 or more industries, and are very interested to share and learn from others with this experience, then this program could be for you. We'll share program updates via the Mentorship section of the PMI CWCC website as well as future newsletter editions.
If you'd like to be part of this pilot program, email mentorship@pmi.bc.ca to be put on the pilot mail list.
